Hurricane Laura made landfall as a Category 4 storm late August 26, causing severe damage to southwestern Louisiana, according to reports.
These videos show the storm’s devastation in downtown DeQuincy, north of Lake Charles.
One fatality was reported as of Thursday morning: a 14-year-old girl killed when a tree fell on her home in Leesville, Louisiana Gov John Bel Edwards’s Deputy Chief of Staff Christina Stephens confirmed.
The National Hurricane Center warned of “unsurvivable” storm surge, extreme winds, and flash flooding across Louisiana, and said that waters could penetrate up to 40 miles inland from the coastline.
The NOAA said on Thursday that the storm had been downgraded to a tropical storm. Credit: Carter Bentley via Storyful
