UMNO AGM | Shortly after the Umno annual general assembly confirmed their supreme council's decision to end any cooperation with Bersatu, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said that all party members holding positions in the cabinet, government or government-linked companies (GLCs) should withdraw as soon as possible - perhaps even today itself.
Asked his views on Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's policy speech earlier, Razaleigh said: "He (Zahid) reiterated what the supreme council had decided that we would cut off cooperation with Bersatu.
"It also means all Umno members who are ministers, deputy ministers and who hold the position of GLC chairperson must resign. If possible today," said Razaleigh who is chairperson of the Umno advisory board.
He said this when met by the media at the World Trade Centre today.
Currently, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has appointed 69 ministers and deputy ministers to serve in his government. Of that number, 14 are Umno representatives. A further 12 people are currently serving in GLC positions.
Razaleigh, also known as Ku Li, said he welcomed Zahid's policy speech and considered it thoughtful and firm.
Asked whether there was determination for Umno to withdraw from the Perikatan Nasional government since the AGM had confirmed the supreme council decision, the Gua Musang MP replied: "(We) must."
Meanwhile, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said he will toe the party line and abide by the party's decision.
He said that personal agenda should not supersede the agenda of the party.
"As a leader, we will adhere to the party's decision because we cannot place personal agenda above the party."
He, however, said that Umno has yet to decide if its ministers should quit the cabinet.
