Portland Demonstrators Release Lanterns in Honor of Breonna Taylor

Around 100 people gathered under the Burnside Bridge in Portland late on March 13 to release paper lanterns in honor of Breonna Taylor on the anniversary of her death.

This footage, posted to Twitter, shows the lantern release and a separate clip of demonstrators marching through the street.

The Oregonian reported that demonstrators rallied across the city throughout the day in memory of Taylor.

Demonstrations marking the anniversary of her death were held across the US, including Seattle, New York, Los Angeles and Taylor’s native Louisville.

The 26-year-old was shot dead in her apartment as police carried out a no-knock search warrant in March 2020, sparking nationwide protests. Credit: @tuesdaylongway via Storyful
