PornHub puts the sex in sustainability with eco-conscious campaign

After fashion and energy, the adult industry is the latest sector raising awareness (among over 18s) for the climate cause. To do this, the adult entertainment content platform, PornHub has launched its "sextainability" campaign, combining sex with sustainability. For 30 days, each time a user views one of the site's "sexstainable" videos, a donation will be made to a climate action nonprofit.

In collaboration with the nonprofit, 2030 or Bust , which focuses on empowering people to help end the climate crisis, PornHub has launched a new category on its website, a dedicated "channel" and a video on YouTube. And for each "Sexstainable" video view, PornHub pledges to donate US$0.10 to 2030 or Bust .

The videos available on the new channel all have sustainable themes, such as "plant a tree," "eat less meat" or "cut down on plastics," where plant-based items (a banana, to be precise) subtly replace certain vibrating plastic tools.

This isn't the first time that PornHub has campaigned for the climate. In 2019, accompanied by the French advertising agency BETC, PornHub sought to raise public awareness about the role of bees and the environmental impact of their loss through its "Beesexual" campaign.

"The most pleasurable way of caring for the environment"

Launched two weeks ago, the "sextainability" campaign has so far only met with relative success. Just 524 people have subscribed to the channel on the PornHub website, and the campaign's promotional video on YouTube counts barely 50,600 views. Proof, perhaps, that porn maybe isn't "the most pleasurable way of caring for the environment," as the campaign would have you believe.
