A popular Miami mall remained eerily quiet on May 20, with many stores shuttered despite the building reopening to the public earlier in the week, a video shows.
Dadeland Mall reopened its doors on May 18 after being closed for two months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In these videos, a handful of shoppers can be seen walking through the mall. A number of shops, such as Victoria’s Secret and the Disney store, can be seen with their gates down.
The mall reopened as Broward and Miami-Dade counties joined the state of Florida in phase one of reopening on May 18, which allowed retail shops to open at 50 percent capacity.
Malls and department stores across the country have been hit hard by the coronavirus shutdown, as shoppers increasingly rely on online retailers for purchases. JCPenney, a 118-year-old department store chain, filed for bankruptcy earlier this month. Nordstrom also announced plans to permanently close 16 of its 116 stores. Both J.Crew and Neiman Marcus have also filed for bankruptcy. Credit: Charles Sanz via Storyful
