Pontoons transport bridge across Rotterdam river

A large arch bridge was transported on floating pontoons and pushed by tugboats through and arrived at its new location in the Port of Rotterdam.

Approximately 220-metre-long, 20-metre-wide and more than 40-metre-high structure sailed along Maas river past four other bridges.

The temporary Suurhoff Bridge will be installed next to an old one for the time of its renovation, making it a temporary gateway to the Maasvlakte industrial area.

The installation of a new bridge depends on weather and tide, the Dutch transport ministry said on its website.
