Police used tear gas on protesters who had assembled outside the Kenosha Police Department after a man was left in a serious condition following an officer-involved shooting on August 23.
In a media statement, Kenosha Police Department said officers were sent to the 2800 block of 40th Street for a domestic incident.
Video posted to Facebook by Telicia Phillips showed the moment police with guns drawn followed the man to the driver’s seat of a car. The police officer holds the man’s shirt before firing his weapon when the man reaches into the car.
Aid was immediately given to the man, according to the Kenosha Police Department and he was later taken to a hospital in Milwaukee. An investigation into the shooting by the state’s Department of Justice has been announced.
The County of Kenosha’s sheriff announced an emergency curfew in response to the late-night protests.
