Police seek Al Jazeera documentary makers
Police have notified four Al Jazeera documentary makers to make themselves available for questioning.
This was confirmed by Bukit Aman CID deputy director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, according to Sinar Harian.
The four are the director, editor, journalist and videographer, said Mior, who added that the media organisation had yet to respond to the notice.
"Perhaps they will have their statements recorded in the coming week or the next," he said.
Police are also looking for a Bangladeshi national known as Md Rayhan Kabir, 25, who was featured in the documentary.
"Locked Up in Malaysia's Lockdown" was aired on Al Jazeera's 101 East programme recently.
It chronicled how Malaysia rounded up undocumented migrants during the height of the local Covid-19 outbreak and eventually deported them.
A recurring theme in the documentary was that racism and xenophobia played a part in the exercise, an allegation which had triggered massive debate.
The federal government has accused Al Jazeera of misinformation, with Senior Minister (Security) Ismail Sabri Yaakob pointing out that minors were not handcuffed, as alleged in the documentary.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said it had unfairly accused the government of racism.
The Health Ministry, in condemning the documentary, said they had accorded equal Covid-19 treatment to foreigners, documented or not.
