KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 -- A police report has been lodged by the organiser of Hong Kong celebrity Jacky Cheung’s concert in Malaysia over unauthorised ticketing activities.

The organiser Unusual Entertainment said they received complaints about sites promoting tickets on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Xiaohongshu and Weibo where tickets are sold at exorbitant prices.

The sites also claimed to be the designated presenter or sponsor in an attempt to defraud the public by spending on certain websites in exchange for the tickets.

“Unusual Entertainment appeals to the public not to fall for such scams. The official ticketing company for “Jacky Cheung 60+ Tour” concert tickets, KL stop, is BookMyShow,” it said through a post on its social media.

“We cannot and will not be responsible should anyone buy counterfeit tickets and are denied entry subsequently,” it said, appealing to the public to stay vigilant and not take part in any of these scams.

Sin Chew Daily reported that concert co-organiser Jiazi Productions had lodged a police report at the Sri Petaling station on May 27.

A company spokesman said a report had also been lodged with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

According to the spokesman, scalpers had hiked up the ticket prices wantonly.

“There are also advertisements that confuse fans. Worried that they may be scammed, we lodged a complaint with the MCMC,” she said.

It was reported that tickets for the concert, set to be held at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on August 11 to 13 and August 18 to 20, were sold out in two hours after counters opened at 10am on May 26.

This is Cheung’s first concert here in five years. Cheung’s stopover here was part of the 61-year-old’s world tour that kicked off in Macau on June 9.

The last time Cheung performed in Malaysia was in 2018 as part of his A Classic Tour, where he staged three sold-out concerts at Axiata Arena.
