Newly released CCTV footage captures the moment 33-year-old Sarah Everard is stopped by her murderer, Wayne Couzens, in London on the night of March 3.
The video was released along with other materials on Wednesday, September 29, during the first of two days of sentence hearings at the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, known as the Old Bailey. Couzens is to be sentenced on Thursday.
This footage, released by the Metropolitan Police, obtained from a car dashcam and a bus camera, shows Couzens’s car stopped, its lights flashing and Everard standing on the pavement facing him.
The Old Bailey also heard new details on Wednesday about how the then Met Police officer made use of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions to falsely arrest Everard. Couzens later admitted to that kidnapping, as well as the rape and murder of Everard.
The Metropolitan Police released a statement on Wednesday regarding Couzens’ hearing saying, “We are sickened, angered and devastated by this man’s crimes which betray everything we stand for. Our thoughts are with Sarah’s family and her many friends. It is not possible for us to imagine what they are going through.” Credit: Metropolitan Police via Storyful
