A police officer was knocked to the ground in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on August 26 after he was hit by the lid of a trash can as he attempted to enter his vehicle amid unrest in the city’s downtown.
A Facebook Live broadcast, captured by local resident Chris Ellis, shows the moment the police officer was injured.
According to local media, the unrest in the city was sparked by misinformation relating to the death of a homicide suspect on Nicollet Mall.
Police told reporters that the man in question died by suicide before publishing footage of the incident on Twitter “in order to dispel rumors that caused significant public safety concerns.”
The video of the suicide has since been deleted.
