Police investigating fatal fire at Montreal triplex
A 57-year-old man has died and an investigation is underway after a house fire broke out Monday afternoon.
The fire started in a basement apartment of a triplex in the borough of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension around 2 p.m., on Monday, according to Montreal police spokesperson Const. Véronique Dubuc.
The fire was on D'Iberville Street near the intersection of Legendre Street.
The man was unconscious when he was taken to hospital where he later died.
Montreal firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly.
People nearby were forced to flee their residences for a short time, Dubuc said.
On Monday, Dubuc said the fire appeared to be accidental but arson investigators were examining the scene.
