Police Investigate Messages Posted Outside Black-Owned Dance School in Philadelphia

Police said they were investigating reports of a woman seen posting messages outside a dance studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, October 16.

The Philadelphia Police Department said they responded to reports of “threats” at a dance studio for children on the 1300 block of Cottman Avenue on Saturday. They said a “light skin” female taped letters onto the front of the property with the message ‘Your not welcome’ before fleeing in a burgundy SUV.

This surveillance video from the dance studio Kreative Legends shows the suspect in action.

Studio owner Kayla Shuler told Storyful she felt certain the woman had racist intent, as Kreative Legends is “the only black-owned business on this particular street.”

The incident occurred as 45 children, aged three to six, were being dismissed from two dance classes. Parents were “very upset”, Shuler said, and they rushed to remove the sign before the children could see it.

Police said the investigation was “active and ongoing with Northeast Detectives Division” as of Thursday. Credit: Kreative Legends via Storyful
