Police made a dozen arrests after a knife fight in the centre of Woolwich on Friday evening.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said officers arrived to find "a fight in Thomas Street” which is near the main shopping area and Woolwich Arsenal station.

They said: “Officers attended the location and found three males suffering stab injuries.

“All have been taken to hospital; officers await an assessment oftheir conditions.

“Additional officers have been deployed to the area and a total of 12 people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Enquiries continue.”

The force has put a Section 60 order in place covering the SE18 postcode until 937am on Saturday giving officers the powers to stop and search people and vehicles, without suspicion, for “offensive weapons or dangerous instruments” for incidents involving serious violence.Any witnesses or anyone with footage that may assist police should call 101 and quote ref 5815/31may.
