Police break up protest blocking Tel Aviv road

STORY: At least 11 protesters were arrested for breaking through police barriers and blocking the Ayalon Highway, police said.

Israeli forces were seen pushing protesters from the site.

Protesters lit a fire and blocked the main road causing a traffic jam on one of the busiest roads in Israel as demonstrations across the country drew tens of thousands.

Nationwide protests have been going on for weeks against the government's judicial reform plans, which critics say undermine the courts' independence while handing officials unbridled power.

Netanyahu has insisted the reforms will strengthen democracy and boost business, and dismissed protesters as "anarchists" unwilling to accept the decisive right-wing victory in a Nov. 1 election.

However, numerous opinion polls have shown a majority of Israelis are against his government's plan.
