KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 — Five hundred and nineteen students received their own Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 LTE today through the government's RM450 million PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia programme.

At the event launch, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the students will be able to keep the tablets even after the completion of their studies.

"The majority of students who use technology in daily learning matters receive positive effects in learning and can increase knowledge without boundaries.

"However, there are students who are less able and sometimes need to borrow a friend's device or have to go to an internet cafe in town just to attend online classes or do assignments.

“Through this initiative, B40 students will receive a device in the form of a tablet, which can be used throughout the learning process until they graduate later,” he said in his speech at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Shah Alam.

He said this was done to ensure the education of B40 students are taken care of with RM450 million from the 2022 Budget allocated for the programme.

A total of 400,000 devices will be given out to the students.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri added that the government has plans to expand the Program Jualan Keluarga Malaysia to higher education campuses to ensure welfare of students is preserved.

He said that with rising prices of goods, the programme can take some burden off these students’ shoulders.
