KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 24 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today wished the Christian community a Merry Christmas ahead of celebrations tomorrow.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said that as Malaysia is a multi-ethnic and multi-racial country, it is the obligation of every Malaysian to strengthen ties with their Christian compatriots by sending them good wishes.

“Seeding and sowing a culture of unity is not to be put only on the shoulders of the government, but every citizen must play an important and continuous role in preserving peace, harmony and a spirit of unity.

“Messages or statements that are mixed with hate and attempts to fire up differences must be put out with an attitude of love and compassion.

“May this year’s Christmas celebration be more festive and bring peace, harmony, prosperity and unity to the distinguished country of Malaysia and its justice-loving people,” he said.

Anwar also urged those who are travelling to their hometowns to be alert and careful on the roads.
