Please Allow Me to Explain Why the “Dolly Parton Challenge” Is All Over Your Instagram Feed
It seems like every day, there’s a brand-new challenge running rampant on social media. Remember the ever-so-innocent Mannequin Challenge, where everyone would drop whatever it is they were doing to freeze and strike a pose better than a Forever 21 shop doll in a window? Oh, and how could we forget the extremely concerning and highly dangerous Tide Pod Challenge, in which teens were eating...actual...Tide Pods! The last decade was hella weird, y’all.
The Mannequin and Tide Pod challenges have phased out since then, THANK GOD, making way for a brand-new one to come into our collective consciousness: the Dolly Parton Challenge. Yes, you read that right—Dolly Parton has a challenge and she created it all by herself!
Chances are, you clicked on this because you have zero clue of what this even is and wanna know what the heck is going on, right? So if you’ve been “working 9 to 5” (sorry, I had to) to figure out this challenge and you’re still coming up short, don’t worry—allow me to break it down for ya.
Okay, so How Did This Challenge Begin in the First Place?
It all started when Dolly posted a photo compilation of four versions of herself—which were represented by LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Tinder—to Instagram this past Tuesday. LinkedIn Dolly looked super profesh in a fitted, checked blazer, while Tinder Dolly was dressed up in a super-sexy Playboy costume. “Get you a woman who can do it all,” she captioned the post, which couldn’t fit the bill better if she tried.
Get you a woman who can do it all 😉

But...How Did the Challenge Become So Popular?
Well, since everyone loves Dolly, celebrities naturally felt inclined to join in on the fun and began doing their own versions. Kerry Washington joined in, Ellen DeGeneres joined in, Will Smith joined in, Miley Cyrus joined in...and before we all had a chance to process what was happening, the challenge completely blew up.
Inspired by @dollyparton, of course!
