KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 — They may be a glimmer of hope for Malaysian fans of American popstar Taylor Swift who are eagerly awaiting her Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film.

Sources from TGV Cinemas and GSC Cinemas told Malay Mail that there are negotiations between local distributors and the film’s global distributor Trafalgar Releasing for a Malaysian release.

However, no further updates have emerged from the discussions yet.

According to local pop culture website Goggler, the process to bring the highly anticipated concert film to Malaysia will be ‘complicated’.

Local distributors will have to work out a deal with Trafalgar Releasing to obtain rights before screening the film through the Film Censorship Board (LPF) to be given a rating.

If the film requires editing, the studio may pull the theatrical release entirely like what happened to Lightyear, Thor: Love and Thunder and Asteroid City.

Even if the LPF approves the film, the studios and exhibitors will have to schedule and plan out showtimes last minute with local cinemas.

Since release schedules are usually arranged far in advance by distributors, a Malaysian release may need more ‘wrangling’.

Malaysian online users have been hopeful that this means they will get to catch Swift's massive Eras Tour on the big screen.

Malaysian Swifties have even created an online petition on change.org to bring the film to Malaysian cinemas.

Meanwhile, global presale tickets for the upcoming concert film have passed RM472 million, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The film is expected to earn RM472 million to RM590 million in North America on its opening.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour premieres in 100 countries worldwide on October 13.
