Plane strikes tail of another aircraft while taxiing at Seattle airport
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said Wednesday it will investigate an on-the-ground collision between two aircrafts in Seattle.
Around 10:40 a.m. local time, the right wing of a Japan Airlines flight struck the tail of a Delta Air Lines flight as both taxied at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the agency said.
The airport stated there were no reported injuries and minimal impact to airport operations.
“There are no injuries reported at this time. SEA is working with both airlines to safely deplane passengers and bring them to the terminal,” the airport wrote in a statement on social platform X.
The incident comes in the wake of two deadly plane crashes in Washington and Philadelphia last week that are still under investigation by federal and local agencies, including the FAA.
The FAA stated the Wednesday incident in Seattle occurred in an area not under air traffic control and that it temporarily paused a number of flights to the airport.
The airport wrote that Japan Airlines and Delta Air Lines are working to accommodate passengers and that their team is working to move the involved aircraft off the taxiway.
