PKR MP: Zahidi should reflect on himself first before blaming rakyat

BN’s Padang Besar MP Zahidi Zainul Abidin should reflect on himself before saying that the current political crisis is due to the people who wrongly voted for Pakatan Harapan in the 2018 general election, PKR’s Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (above) said.

“I advise Zahidi to take this opportunity to reflect on himself: did he himself fix the situation?

“With all sorts of ignorant statements and incidents as the deputy communications and multimedia minister, does he have the right to place the blame of the current situation onto the shoulders of the rakyat?” Syed Ibrahim said in a statement today, in which he also described Zahidi’s remarks as “irresponsible and shameful”.

He urged Zahidi to stop blaming the rakyat as the rakyat were merely carrying out their democratic duty and right in voting.

The government is the one in the wrong because it keeps politicking, does not take the issues of the rakyat seriously as well as constantly blaming others, Syed Ibrahim said.

The rakyat have not forgotten the way Zahidi handled the issue of Sabahan teenager Veveonah Mosibin, who had climbed a tree to get stable enough internet access to take her examinations, he said.

The rakyat have also not forgotten his statement that he would work to provide free internet at higher education institutions, even though most higher education institutions already provide this facility, he added.

“The rakyat are becoming more concerned with the weaknesses of the government in handling the issue of internet coverage, especially in rural areas, which will lead to a host of other issues.

“Also of concern are issues of fake news spreading and online scams which are becoming more worrying. Does he (Zahidi) want to place the blame of these on the rakyat as well?” Syed Ibrahim asked.

Yesterday, Zahidi had reportedly linked the current political crisis to the people who wrongly voted for Pakatan Harapan in the 2018 general election.

He said the crisis would further bog down the country’s economy if it remained unresolved.

“Firstly, we have to adhere to the advice of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, but we were in a 50-50 situation where no investors want to come, the economy is not good and it was the people who caused this situation.

"The people voted 50-50 (for Harapan) first and they were deceived.

"Don't blame the politicians because what happened now is caused by the people who voted (for Harapan) because they were deceived (by them),” Zahidi had said.
