Pilot Seriously Injured in Long Island Small Plane Crash

A small plane crashed in Long Island, New York, on Sunday, January 10, leaving the pilot with serious injuries, according to local media reports.

The Cessna plane, carrying only the 57-year-old pilot, crashed in Old Bethpage at around 1 pm on Sunday, reports said. The plane was leaking fuel, local media reported, citing officials.

The plane narrowly missed hitting an abandoned waste disposal facility, Joseph Saladino, a supervisor with the Town of Oyster Bay, told local media.

This footage shows the plane crashing into the ground near a dumpster.

“Only soul on board was the pilot who managed to avert further tragedy by piloting his aircraft away from populated areas,” the Plainview Volunteer Fire Department said on Facebook when sharing the footage.
