Piers Morgan has claimed that Boris Johnson turned down the chance to go on his in-depth chat show Life Stories, mocking him for the famous moment he retreated into a fridge to avoid being interviewed.

The former Good Morning Britain host often complained during his time fronting the ITV breakfast news show about the Prime Minister's refusal to be interviewed by him, but now he has revealed that it wasn't the only invitation Johnson said no to.

Morgan has recently announced that Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer will feature on Life Stories, but when he started getting questions about whether the Prime Minister would be given the same opportunity for an in-depth interview, he clarified what had happened.

The presenter tweeted: "To those asking if I've also invited @BorisJohnson to do Life Stories... yes, of course, but he declined. Our fearless Prime Minister prefers to hide in fridges than be interviewed by me. So, full respect to @Keir_Starmer for having the bottle to do it."

In 2019, Johnson made an awkward escape from a live interview request from Good Morning Britain, appearing to hide in a fridge rather than speak to Morgan.

He was making an election campaign visit to Modern Milkman in Yorkshire when a GMB reporter asked him live on-air to answer a few questions and one of his aides was heard responding "oh, for f***s sake".

Johnson then said, "I'll be with you in a second", before walking into a large fridge stacked with milk bottles with his aides, avoiding further questions.

Morgan and his co-host Susanna Reid often took the opportunity to question other Tory ministers appearing on the news programme about when Johnson would finally agree to be interviewed by them.
