Japan followed Saudi Arabia's lead by delivering another shocking upset in the World Cup beating four-time winner Germany 2-1. Spain routed a hapless Costa Rica blowing past 7-0 to start their campaign while Belgium got into the win column defeating Canada 1-0.

The emphatic victory ensured Los Toros avoid any slip up that has befallen two of the tournament's top contenders so far.

Michy Batshuayi scored the only goal for a Belgium side that failed to live up with the hype in their Group F contest against Canada. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois saved the Belgians from any embarrassment by saving an early penalty against the Canadians who marked their team's return to the tournament after 36 years.

Five Indian soldiers were killed when a military tank they were travelling in sank while crossing a river in the remote region of Ladakh that borders China, officials said Saturday.
