This Morning host Phillip Schofield has talked about how he thinks his dad would have reacted to him coming out as gay.

The TV presenter appeared on Chris Evans' (not the Marvel one) podcast How to Wow last week, where he was asked about his father, who passed away in 2008.

"That's like a grenade going off in my head," Phillip said in reaction to the question, before pondering for a bit then answering: "When I went down to Cornwall when I told my mum, I said, 'What do you think dad would have said? Would he still be proud?'

"Thankfully she said, 'Yes… he'll think you're brave and he will always be proud of you.' So that is good... My dad was one of the kindest, sweetest, most lovely people ever."

Phillip recently admitted that he still feels quite confused about who he is despite coming out, saying: "I mean it's clearer, because I've been very honest about it so that I know about myself – well I've known that for a bit of time. However, no, I don't think I do. I think probably my head is just as muddy as it was before."

The host also talked about his relationship with wife Stephanie Lowe, saying that they haven't started talking about going through the process of a divorce at the moment.

Phillip's autobiography Life's What You Make It is out now. This Morning airs at 10am weekdays on ITV.
