KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim has reportedly claimed that a big win for Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the state elections will lead to its eventual takeover of the federal government.

Astro Awani quoted the Umno-turned-PAS leader saying a win in all six states will prove that voters are rejecting the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) federal government, disproving Transport Minister Anthony Loke’s assertion that it will not have an effect on Putrajaya.

“God willing, PN will win all six states and if Loke thinks that it won’t change Putrajaya, well just be patient.

“Patience is a virtue. Just wait, after we win the six states, remember this August, bye-bye,” he reportedly said when speaking to reporters after campaigning in Kuala Terengganu.

Shahidan, who is former Perlis menteri besar, however denied that there was a movement to topple the government, just that a big win is a referendum from the people that it did not want PH-BN.

“It is the MPs that determine who forms the federal government. So MPs have to assess for themselves. If the six states reject PH, then what are they waiting for? That is the question,” he said.

He was responding to Loke, who is also DAP secretary-general who said that the state elections will not have any bearing on the federal government standing.

Last week, Loke accused PN of making an irresponsible claim and said it was proof that the federal Opposition has run out of political ideas and now resorted to confusing voters.
