KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 — Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan has today urged the police to let Perikatan Nasional (PN) proceed with its planned protest in Kuala Lumpur on September 16.

The DAP lawmaker said as long as the event is peaceful and done properly it should be allowed.

"On the gathering organised by my friends on that side, I want this hall to be witness as I urge the police to allow them to proceed with said rally.

"We have long asked for the right to protest in peace and as long as that assembly is peaceful we should let it proceed. Lest we forget that for years our fight was fought on the streets," he said during the tabling of the 12th Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review in Parliament here.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) have called for a protest against the government on September 16, which coincides with Malaysia Day, to protest against the court ruling that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi be granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) on 47 graft charges, involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds.

The PN demonstration is planned for 2pm on Malaysia Day.
