KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 — Kelantan Perikatan Nasional (PN) today announced a mega gathering in Kota Baru this Friday as it prepares for next month’s state election.

State PN secretary, Wan Roslan Wan Hamat said the coalition is expecting a turnout of 80,000 people.

“In preparing for the upcoming state election in Kelantan, we will organise a mega gathering at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here. We will perform prayers and PN leaders have confirmed to us that they will give their speech.

“It was also confirmed to us that our national figure, Tun Dr Mahathir will be attending the gathering and he will give his speech to support us,” he said, referring to former two-time prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He added that the many leading personalities who support PN will attend the event.

On July 5, PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that Dr Mahathir has agreed in principle to support his coalition for the six state elections next month.

The former prime minister said he met with his immediate predecessor in a “respectful and cordial” meeting the previous day, during which they had reached an agreement.

On July 5, the Election Commission (EC) announced that polling for Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu state elections will be on August 12.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh also announced during the same press conference that nomination day will be on July 29 and early voting is set for August 8.
