Perak Speaker confirms anti-party hopping law among Bills to be tabled at upcoming state assembly sitting

IPOH, Dec 16 — Perak Speaker Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid today said that two government Bills will be tabled in the upcoming State Legislative Assembly, which include amending the state constitution to introduce an anti-party hopping provision.

Mohammad Zahir said that the other Bill that will also be tabled in the sitting is the 2023 Supply Enactment or Budget.

“At the first meeting, which will be held on December 19, the state speaker and his deputy will be elected and all the 59 assemblymen will take their oaths.

“Meanwhile, the two Bills will be tabled in the second meeting on December 20,” he told a press conference here.

Mohammad Zahir also said that State Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah will attend the sitting and address the state assembly at the second meeting.

He said that the second meeting of the state assembly will then continue from next Wednesday until December 29 for oral questions, debate and tabling of other motions.

Mohammad Zahir also said that they have only received one nomination for the State Speaker and the deputy post. Mohammad Zahir has been nominated to helm the State Speaker post while Canning assemblyman Jenny Choy has been nominated for the deputy speaker post.

He also said the state assembly sitting this time will witness 35 new faces out of the 59 assemblymen.
