Bersatu's Kempas assemblyperson Osman Sapian has suggested that his party can take revenge on Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad who is from Umno.

This is after Umno yesterday moved to oust Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu as the Perak menteri besar.

Osman (photo, above) said he was shocked by the move as Umno and Bersatu have been part of the same coalition forming the federal and state governments for eight months.

"Bersatu assemblypersons could take revenge by doing the same thing to the menteri besar who is from Umno," he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.

However, Osman said the Bersatu leadership would have the final say.

"I don't want to elaborate too much as I am not part of the state leadership.

"We will see if it happens in Johor or not. It is up to the state and federal leadership led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin," he was quoted as saying.

Ahmad Faizal yesterday failed a confidence vote in the Perak state assembly after 48 assemblypersons voted against him while only 10 voted in support of the Perak menteri besar.

A total of 24 Umno assemblypersons and 24 opposition representatives voted against Ahmad Faizal. Only one Umno representative voted in support of Ahmad Faizal. The confidence vote was initiated by Umno.

Umno had resented the fact that Bersatu could occupy the top position even though it only had five assemblypersons compared to Umno's 25.

Following Ahmad Faizal's ouster, the Perak sultan is now interviewing all parties to decide who the new menteri besar candidate will be.

In Johor, Bersatu has a more significant number, with 12 assemblypersons while Umno has 14. Their partners MIC and PAS have two and one respectively.

The opposition Pakatan Harapan has 27 assemblypersons, two short of a majority.
