Perak increase effort to protect Malayan Tiger, more patrolling and enforcement
IPOH, May 25 ― In an effort to protect and preserve the Malayan Tiger, the Perak government has gazetted the Royal Belum State Park as Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CA│TS), which is the first Malayan Tiger habitat conservation accreditation area in Malaysia.
State Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Teh Kok Lim said the Royal Belum State Park was gazetted as CA│TS this year.
“In addition, the state government through the Forestry Department, the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN), the State Wildlife and National Park Department and non-governmental organisation, particularly World Wildlife Fund (WWF), are in the process of adding 340,000 hectares of land as a CA│TS accreditation area involving five permanent forest reserves,” he said in the State Legislative Assembly at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building here.
Teh was responding to the oral question asked by Pasir Pinji assemblyman Goh See Hua on the state government effort to protect the Malayan Tiger.
The Aulong assemblyman also said that the National Tiger Conservation Task Force ― MyTTF has established the Malayan Tiger Conversation Unit in Perak.
He said the Malayan Tiger Conversation Unit will be under the State Wildlife and National Park Department.
“There will be more enforcement and patrol (boots on the ground) and the authorities will release the sambar deers in the forest
“The authorities will also strengthen the tiger’s habitat where it will involve four main Perak corridors namely Padang Chong Forest Reserve ― Forest Reserve Sg. Kuak, Bukit Larut Forest Reserve ― Bubu Forest Reserve, Bintang Hijau Forest Reserve ― Papulut Forest Reserve and Bubu Forest Reserve ― Matang Mangrove Swamp Forest,” he said.
