A group of eight friends were swimming by the beach in Perak yesterday when a big wave came crashing down, drowning one of them and causing another to go missing.
They were swimming at the Teluk Batik Beach in Malaysia’s Perak state yesterday. Emergency responders said they found the body of 21-year-old S Emmanuel Raj at 6:55pm.
“The victim was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by a medical team before he was pronounced dead at 7.20 pm. His body has been handed over to the police,” Abdul Hazhar Ismail from the fire and rescue department told the press yesterday.
A search is underway for their missing friend R Vigneis.
The group had traveled to the beach from Ipoh, roughly 90km away.
One of them, 22-year-old S Rishethirabalan, said a big wave hit them while they were swimming in the sea. He managed to rescue one of his friends, without elaborating further.
“I only had the chance to save one friend as I was already having difficulties breathing and worn out. The others managed to swim ashore, only they (both victims) could not be rescued,” he said.
