KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 — To be close to his warded son, a father in Perak has decided to set up camp at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital parking lot in Ipoh, Perak.

A Facebook post was shared by the father, Adi Saifullizam Abdul Sani, in the Family Camping Malaysia group.

In the post, he shared photos of his Proton Satria with a tent attached to its rear.

Talking to New Straits Times, the 40-year-old father of three shared that he has been camping out in the hospital parking lot since Friday, after his eight-year-old son, Muhammad Afeef Mikhail, was diagnosed with brain tumour.

Afeef initially experienced swelling between his eyes and spine and was later brought in for a CT scan where doctors detected a tumour.

He had to be admitted and has undergone an operation to have his cell samples taken for further testing.

“We can just hope for the best to see if the tumour is aggressive or otherwise,” said Adi.

“My wife is in the ward with him. But I cannot bear to be too far apart. If anything develops, at least I’m already here.

“I discussed this with my wife. We also took into account our finances and how much it would cost if I were to travel daily from our home in Trolak to the hospital.”

Adi, who works at a factory in Bidor added that he had taken a week of unpaid leave just so he could be close to his youngest son.

He shared that his other two children are currently being cared for by their relatives at the moment.

“It’s not that comfortable sleeping in a car but it’s alright, as long as I can be nearby in case of anything.

“Some friends in the Ipoh area offered me accommodation but I had to decline as they were around a half hour’s drive away from the hospital,” he said.

Adi’s Facebook post has garnered close to 2,000 likes with over 400 comments from social media users sharing their best wishes to Adi and his family.

Some users shared nearby places where Adi could put up, but he insists he was comfortable where he was.
