Perak BN chief said would declare assets if EC requires it
IPOH, November 9 — Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said he has no issue of candidates declaring their assets, but only if the Election Commission (EC) made it necessary.
The caretaker MB then claimed his assets were less than Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders such as Rafizi Ramli, Nga Kor Ming and Datuk Ngeh Koh Ham.
“(We) don’t have a problem. It is not made as a condition by EC," he claimed at a press conference after launching the Perak BN 15th general election manifesto at the Meru Raya Recreational Field here last night.
“But we can do that, we are not that rich. If compared to Rafizi, I’m way poorer. If you compare me with Nga and Ngeh, I’m still poorer.”
Saarani said this when asked if BN candidates would consider declaring their assets as how some others have done.
Today, Saarani also claimed some of the candidates choose not to declare their assets due to safety issues.
“Some are worried of their family, children and grandchildren’s safety. However, if it instructed by EC, I have no problem declaring my assets,” said Saarani.
He also indicated that PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s assets are still unknown.
Several parties such PKR and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) required their candidates who contesting the general election to declare their assets
