GEORGE TOWN, Nov 3 — Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates who win in the 15th general election (GE15) will be required to submit “report cards” every three months, said Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir.

The Penang BN chairman said their performance will be evaluated to ensure they were always available to and serving their constituents.

“We will make sure they work for their constituency,” he told reporters after handing over the credential letters to the 13 BN candidates in Penang.

Musa said this time, they were targeting to win more than two seats in Penang.

In 2018, BN had won Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor, but lost the latter to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia when the MP Datuk Shabudin Yahaya defected.

“We want to defend these two seats and on top of that, we hope to win more seats this time around,” Musa said.

On the candidates who will be fielded in Penang, he said all but three were newcomers.

Incumbent Kepala Batas MP Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican will be defending his seat for the third time.

Meanwhile, Sungai Dua assemblyman Datuk Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Nor and current state Opposition leader, will be contesting in Tasek Gelugor.

Former Teluk Bahang assemblyman Datuk Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain Shah will be contesting in the Balik Pulau seat.

Musa said this time, the “Friends of BN” parties — Makkal Sakti, Indian Progressive Front and Parti Cinta Malaysia — were also given chance to contest.

Datuk Seri R. Thanenthiran from Makkal Sakti will be contesting in Nibong Tebal, Datuk T. Loganathan from IPF will be contesting in Jelutong, and Huan Xin Yun from PCM will be contesting in Bukit Bendera.

The remaining candidates in Penang are Dr Tan Chuan Hong (MCA - Bagan), Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said (Umno - Permatang Pauh), Tan Yang Ampang (MCA - Bukit Mertajam), Datuk Tan Lee Huat (MCA - Batu Kawan), Tan Kim Nee (MCA - Tanjong), Wong Chin Chong (MCA - Bukit Gelugor) and Saw Yee Fung (MCA - Bayan Baru).
