GEORGE TOWN, July 29 — There will be multi-cornered fights in 11 out of the 40 state seats in the Penang state elections.

The remaining 29 seats are straight fights between major coalitions, Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Four seats that will be seeing four-cornered fights are Bagan Dalam, Perai, Sungai Pinang and Pantai Jerejak.

Former DAP’s Bagan Dalam assemblyman M. Satees has quit the party to stand as an Independent in the seat to go against K. Jayaraman (PN/PAS), K. Kumaran (DAP/PH) and Penang Front Party’s S. Rajasakanan.

Over in Perai, former DAP councillor David Marshel is standing as an Independent against R. Sivasuntaram (Gerakan/PN), S. Sundarajoo (DAP/PH) and H. Vikneswary (Muda).

The other two seats with four-cornered fights are Sungai Pinang and Pantai Jerejak.

In Sungai Pinang, incumbent Lim Siew Khim (DAP/PH) is defending her seat against Ng Fook On (Gerakan/PN), Abdul Ghani Haroon (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Independent Andrew Rajah.

Meanwhile, in Pantai Jerejak, the youngest and oldest candidates, 27-year-old Priyankaa Loh from Muda and 81-year-old Ravinder Singh from PRM will be vying for the seat against PN’s Oh Tong Keong and PH’s new face, Fahmi Zainol.

The seven seats that will have three-cornered fights are Padang Lalang, Bukit Tambun, Tanjong Bunga, Air Putih, Kebun Bunga, Pulau Tikus and Batu Uban.

More than 50 per cent of the candidates from both PH and PN in Penang are new faces.

Voters will cast their votes this August 12 for six state elections in Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
