KUCHING, Sept 1 — Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will hold its special convention in four venues and on different dates in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s independence, its president Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said today.

Abang Johari, who is also the Sarawak premier, said the convention will be held in Kuching on September 23, Betong on October 8, Sibu on October 29 and Miri on November 11.

“This special convention is related to the 60th anniversary of Sarawak Independence celebration,” he told reporters after chairing the party supreme council meeting at the party headquarters in Jalan Bako, near here.

He said that the theme of the convention will be “PBB Teras Kestabilan, Kemajuan Dan Kemakmuran Negeri Sarawak.”

“The theme is related to GPS where PBB is the backbone and we have come up with a Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 that will strengthen the state’s economy.

“This development strategy will have a far-reaching impact towards the prosperity of Sarawak,” he said.

Abang Johari said the convention will enable the party members to know the new economy such as renewable energy and new industries based on carbon trading and hydrogen economy.

He said PBB members should know the direction to which the state is moving.

He said the supreme council also touched on carbon trading, adding that any economic benefit that comes from it must go to Sarawak.

He said carbon trading is the state’s economic asset.

“If the carbon is kept in the territorial waters of Sarawak, under our land code, it belongs to Sarawak,” he said.

Present at the press conference were PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and senior vice president Datuk Dr Stephen Rundie.
