Paul Mescal admits he has Google Alerts switched on for himself
Londoner’s Diary
Many celebrities claim that they never Google themselves. Blake Lively once told Variety that putting her name into the search engine “ended in full depression”, while Hollywood stars like Scarlett Johansson, Emma Stone and Brad Pitt live by the mantra never to search themselves up.
But one person who can’t resist seeing what’s out there about them is Gladiator II star Paul Mescal. But he doesn’t just search himself up every now and again: Mescal admitted that he had Google Alerts turned on for himself, meaning he gets a notification every time something is written about him on a website (if you’re reading this, hi Paul!).
Mescal fessed up while playing LADbible’s “Do You Even Know Me?” friendship test with his Gladiator co-star Pedro Pascal. The pair had to answer obscure questions about each other and Mescal told his co-star, “you’re not going to know any of these.”
“I watch your every move. I have Google Alerts on you,” Pascal responded. “I have Google Alerts on me,” Mescal admitted with a laugh. His phone must buzz off the hook. This week the internet was awash with pictures of ersatz versions of the star, complete with short-shorts and mullets, as a Paul Mescal lookalike contest took place in Dublin.

Mescal happened to be in the city at the time for a Gladiator II screening but did not show face, unlike Timothée Chalamet who delighted fans with a surprise appearance at his own lookalike contest in New York last week.
Gladiator II is released in cinemas next week, and director Ridley Scott has already announced that he and Mescal will be reuniting for his next project, The Dog Stars.
