Patrick Dempsey ‘Deeply Saddened’ About Mass Shooting in His Maine Hometown

A “heartbroken” Patrick Dempsey is reacting to the mass shooting in his hometown of Lewiston, Maine.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by last night’s tragedy in my hometown,” the Grey’s Anatomy vet lamented on Instagram Thursday. “Maine’s great strength is it’s sense of community, and how we are being asked to come together to support everyone that has been devastated by this senseless act. My family and I are heartbroken for the victims, their family and the community.”

The massacre in Lewiston — which left 18 people dead and 13 others wounded — occurred late Wednesday at a bowling alley and a restaurant. The suspect — 40-year-old Robert R. Card — remains at large. Much of the area has remained in lockdown as a result.

Comedians Pete Davidson and John Mulaney have postponed both of their weekend shows in Maine in the wake of the tragedy, with the latter writing on X (formerly known as Twitter), “We are devastated by the events in Lewiston. Shows scheduled for this weekend in Maine on Saturday, 10/28 and Sunday, 10/29 have been postponed. We are thinking of you all.”

“This is a dark day for Maine,” Gov. Janet Mills declared at a news conference Thursday, adding, “The full weight of my administration is behind law enforcement’s efforts to capture the person of interest, Robert Card, to hold whoever is responsible for this atrocity accountable under the full force of state and federal law and to seek full justice for the victims and their families.”
