KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — Nibong Tebal MP Datuk Mansor Othman fainted midway through his speech during the debate of Budget 2020 in Dewan Rakyat today.

Mansor began slurring as he read from his speech and eventually collapsed.

Deputy Speaker Nga Kor Ming then adjourned the meeting for five minutes under Standing Order 12 (2).

Parliament’s medical team then rushed to Mansor’s aid, and he regained consciousness shortly after.

“The doctor said that he (Mansor) is actually okay. Maybe his blood pressure went down a little at the time, but he has recovered now. But according to procedure, he will still be referred to a hospital for a full check-up.

“He was already okay. When I arrived, he was already okay. He could speak and identify people,” Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said, when met by reporters at the Dewan Rakyat lobby.

“His blood pressure had also stabilised. Sugar level was also okay,” she said, adding that Mansor could have suffered from a syncopal attack, as diagnosed by the Parliament doctor who treated Mansor.

Syncope is a temporary loss of consciousness, that is usually related to insufficient blood flow to the brain.

It usually happens when one’s blood pressure is too low, and the heart does not pump enough oxygen to the brain.
