Park guests flee as 2 camels escape enclosure, kick at patrons at Cedar Point amusement park

The Ohio park's resident camels ran through the park's pathways, even kicking at a person in a motorized wheelchair in a clip from the scene.

Roller coasters aren't the only thing zooming through the iconic Cedar Point amusement park, as new social media footage shows the Sandusky, Ohio destination's camels, Sampson and Artie, escaping from their enclosure and kicking at guests earlier this week.

Several videos shared Tuesday to TikTok show the park's camels running through pathways near the second drop of the park's Millennium Force roller coaster, under which sits the Barnyard petting zoo area that typically houses the critters.

One video, shared to the social media site by Cleveland-based influencer Justin Garcia, shows one of the camels approaching a person sitting in a motorized wheelchair before kicking its legs into the air near the person's head.

Other angles show park guests fleeing the animals as they trot around the area.

“We were almost trampled by two massive mammals,” Garcia told the local Fox affiliate. “We put some space in between us and watched the aftermath of what could have been a very dangerous situation."

Park spokesperson Tony Clark told local WKYC news that "the camels decided to take an unplanned stroll just outside their home" but were "quickly returned" without further incident, and that the park is "looking into how they made it to the midway" beyond their enclosure.

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Cedar Point for comment.

Outside of its camel family, Cedar Point is home to one of the largest roller coaster collections in the world, with 17 operating roller coasters on its property — including Top Thrill 2, which initially opened in 2003 under the name Top Thrill Dragster as the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world, though that record was broken by another park shortly thereafter.

The camel incident recalls an occurrence that unfolded last year at the Walt Disney World Resort's Magic Kingdom park, which was partially closed on Sept. 18 to allow staff to remove a wild bear that had infiltrated park grounds.

While no one was injured during the bear's visit, Magic Kingdom closed several attractions as a precaution for guests, including legendary rides like Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the train ride encircling the park.

Similarly, an adorable squirrel took a spin on the park's classic Carousel of Progress attraction in July 2023, posing a significantly less concerning ordeal for attendees.
