Paris mandates outdoor mask wearing again

Some cities in France, including Paris and Lyon, brought back the mask-wearing mandate, which had gone out of effect in June, as the country tightens measures amid a worsening health situation due to the Omicron variant.

France reported 206,243 new confirmed coronavirus cases in the latest 24-hour period on Thursday (December 30), rising above 200,000 for the second day running.

People not wearing a mask outdoors could face a fine of 135 euros, local authorities said in a press release. But the new measures have been met with a mixed reaction.
