Super Mario's RPG-themed spin-off series Paper Mario is making its debut on Nintendo Switch, and it's not even that far away!
Today (May 14) saw the big N announce Paper Mario: Origami King and, as the name implies, a lot of the world and characters are rendered lovingly in a beautiful origami style.
We say lovely, because the origami characters are the baddies, seemingly led by a very creepy folded-up Princess Peach.
The inventive battle system that the series is loved for returns, although the trailer didn't go too in-depth about what is new. We did get a look at the expanded exploration, including Paper Mario sailing across the sea in a little paper boat. It's adorable.
There's also a strange little scene at the end where Paper Mario wears a Samus Aran helmet and runs back and forth. At first we thought he was just doing pelvic thrusts, but apparently he is "battling something".
Is this some sort of Metroid-inspired VR game that Paper Mario can play while wearing the helmet? Is this just a way of whipping up Nintendo fans into an even bigger frenzy over the Metroid Prime HD Trilogy that is definitely coming but hasn't been announced yet?
We won't have long to find out, as the game is set for a release on Nintendo Switch on July 17, which isn't that far away at all. We quite like this strategy of not announcing games until they are close to release, we must admit.
