The Palestinians turning scrap paper into canvases

Would you paint on an eco-friendly canvas?

Location: Gaza City, Gaza

The canvases are made from recycled paper

which is shredded and mixed with a water-based solution

before being moulded into different shapes and sizes

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) PAPER RECYCLING PROJECT FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR, HUDA THABIT, SAYING:"Using very basic tools, we've been able to recycle paper waste to produce great canvases."

Thabit came up with the idea as a way to reduce waste

and to utilize the limited resources available in Gaza

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) PALESTINIAN ARTIST, HADEEL BADWAN, SAYING:"Painting on it is very nice and the colors set on it very easily, and are clear. I used a number of brushes and the strokes were also great."
