Hugh Grant's kids apparently "hated" Paddington 2 upon first seeing it three years ago.
Funnily enough, his performance as villain Phoenix Buchanan in the live-action/animation hybrid sequel was lauded by fans and critics, but you just can't please everybody.
Appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers via video link recently, the British actor recalled their reactions.
"I was convinced they would [like it], so I set up a special screening for them," he told the US chatshow host, before joking: "That takes a whole cinema... I have hundreds of children.
"I got them in there and they pretty much hated it, they kept whispering to me: 'Why are you in it so much?' But anyway, I make them like it now.
"They have to watch it every night and tell me how good I am, otherwise they don't get fed," he joked.
Elsewhere in their conversation, Grant went on to label Paddington 2 a "masterpiece".
"It is a kind of masterpiece, even if you extract me. You know, [director] Paul King made a masterpiece – I believe it's the only film on Rotten Tomatoes with 100% in the world, so I'm proud to be in it."
Although this is no longer quite accurate as earlier this year Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg's Palm Springs achieved the same feat and more recently Spontaneous, starring 13 Reason Why's Katherine Langford, also scored the coveted 100% rating, it's still a great achievement.
