A South African man was greeted by a pack of wild mongooses after he opened the kitchen door at his home in Westville, KwaZulu-Natal.
Footage posted on Facebook by Warren Friedman on December 31 shows the paw of one of the animals reaching inside a gap at the bottom of the door, before the homeowner opens the door to reveal more animals.
Speaking to Storyful, Friedman explained that the pack were frequent visitors to his home over the years.
“Over the years the troop has become habituated to my wife, Shirley, and I, and behave in a natural way even when we’re watching them,” he said.
He added, “They have also learned where the kitchen is and where the cat food is kept. So, they have started gouging a hole in the door to try and gain access to the house.”
