Overcrowding Concerns During Eurovision Welcome Concert in Liverpool

Several attendees at a Eurovision concert in Liverpool on May 7 voiced concerns about overcrowding at the outdoor event, with the Liverpool Echo reporting some were “seen being carried over barriers”.

Footage recorded by NPAS North West Region shows the concert from above.

The National Lottery’s Big Eurovision Welcome, which was attended by at least 30,000 people, took place at St George’s Hall as part of Eurovision festivities in Liverpool this week.

A Liverpool City Council tweet about the event was met with a number of critical responses. Some said they were taken ill, or struggled to contact security personnel, or had to leave due to surging crowds.

A council spokesperson told the Liverpool Echo: “Stewards assisted a few people who were uncomfortable in the crowd. The event started on time and is getting a great reception from the audience.” Credit: NPAS North West Region via Storyful
