Over 600 Firefighters Battle Wildfire in Southern France

Over 600 firefighters have been deployed to contain the wildfire burning in Bouches-du-Rhone, a region in Southern France, according to the Department of Fire and Rescue of Bouches-du-Rhone.

This footage by Twitter user @MathieuGandalf shows smoke from the wildfires looming over Avignon. “It’s snowing ash all over town,” he wrote in the video’s caption.

Local news reported that the fire has covered around 1,000 hectares (2,500 acres).

Firefighters in Graveson, a commune located near the fire, recommended that residents evacuate.

Other parts of France have also been battling wildfires as temperatures soar. Regions of France were warned to be on alert due to a heat wave, with temperatures reaching as high as 39 degrees Celsius (102 Fahrenheit) in some areas. Credit: @MathieuGandalf via Storyful
