Otto the baby elephant ventures outside

Born on March 22 at Munich's Hellabrunn Zoo, this is Otto's first spring and keeper Daniel Matterna says he is taking full advantage of his time outside.

Otto has learned to respond to his name, making it easier for the keepers to call him inside when he is needed. Until then, he is free to potter about with his mother Temi, and aunts Mangala and Panang.

As a bull elephant, it is unlikely Otto will be able to remain at the zoo indefinitely once he grows and gains full strength, but the keepers hope his good relationship with the second bull elephant Gajendra will allow them to keep him for longer.
