Other Angle co-founder Olivier Albou suggests the comedic storyline, the disabled cast and sensitive storytelling makes for a rare combination.
“Even if the pitch is not the same, the film has similarity with the Spanish movie Campeones (Champions) which sold really well as an original film and as a remake as well,” he says, referring to Javier Fesser’s drama about a football club made up of disabled players.
Back in Europe, A Little Something Extra will hit cinemas on May 1 in France, where it is distributed by Pan Distribution. It has also sold to French speaking territories, Benelux (Vertigo), Switzerland (Praesens), Canada (AZ Films).
Albou and Laurence Schonberg, co-heads of Paris and L.A-based sales and production house, launched the French Comedy Club in 2022. The aim is to showcase French comedies ripe for ancillary or remake deals.
The event traditionally takes place in the spring but they ran an extra edition last fall in response to the cancellation of the American French Film Festival (ex-Colcoa) due to the Hollywood strikes.
Aside from A Little Something Extra, this year’s program, running April 27 and 28 at the Lumiere Cinema in Beverly Hills, also features Open Season from Newen Connect, Retirement Home 2 from Ginger and Fed and Lucky Winners from Charades.
Other Angle will also be out in force at Cannes this year with new films as well as older films with remake potential.
It one of five companies selected to pitch projects at the inaugural edition of the Cannes Marché du Film’s initiative Cannes Remakes, aimed at fostering remakes of European feature film IP.
Other Angle will participate with Marguerite’s Theorem and A Little Something Extra which are new to the remake market and Retirement Home, for which the company previously sold remake rights to Germany, Spain, Mexico (Sony), Italy (Notorious) and U.S.
“The release of Retirement Home 2, sales of which are handled by Ginger and Fed, is boosting extra remake possibilities,” said Albou.
